Do you believe the Bhagavad Gita is powerful and transformational?

Almost all Hindus would say yes.

But my answer is no. A big no.

Don't get me wrong. Hear me out first.

When Lord Krishna delivered the Gita to Arjuna, who else heard it? Was Arjuna the only one?

No.

King Dhritarashtra heard it too.

If you aren't familiar with the Mahabharata, you might wonder how. Dhritarashtra was blind and wasn't even on the battlefield.

Think of it as a live TV broadcast. His broadcaster was none other than Sanjaya, his trusted adviser, who had been blessed with the ability to see what was happening on the battlefield from afar. Sanjaya narrated the events to the king, including Krishna's conversation with Arjuna.

Now, Dhritarashtra wasn't just another spectator. He was the king. He had the authority to influence events and had opportunities to prevent the war. Yet the Mahabharata gives us no indication that hearing the Gita transformed him or changed his course of action.

Same wisdom. Two very different responses.

Knowledge is not power. Knowledge put into practice is.

Knowledge is like water. You can be a seed, absorbing it and allowing it to change you. Or you can be like a stone: the knowledge reaches you, but it runs right off without changing anything.

There is no shortage of wisdom in the world. The Bhagavad Gita has existed for thousands of years. Books, podcasts, courses and experts are everywhere.

The real question isn't how much knowledge you have access to. It's how much of it you actually use.

So, what are you?

A seed or a stone? Arjuna or Dhritarashtra?
